A good complete inflatable kayak

The Sevylor Ranger KRC 79 is a very robust and versatile inflatable kayak. It can be used for whitewater, coastal and river paddling and can be packed like a workhorse with all your kayak accessories.

You should not confuse this inflatable kayak with cheaper alternatives that you will find in your local department store. It is made of strong PVC and has three separate air chambers that allow the kayak to remain afloat in case one of the chambers is accidentally punctured.

One of the most important kayak accessories for any inflatable kayak is of course the pump. While you can buy electric pumps which are very helpful, I have found that they cannot pump the last few pounds of air needed into the kayak.

In my opinion, you’d be better off using a manual hand or foot pump to ensure you’ve inflated your boat correctly. This inflatable kayak can be manually inflated in less than five minutes.

To provide additional protection to the internal chambers of the kayak, it has a polyester cover that covers the sides and bottom that protects it from punctures. The polyester jacket hooks over the bow and stern and secures to the sides of the kayak with Velcro patches.

A good tip to ensure the jacket is centered is to inflate the floor section of the kayak and then flip the boat over and use the jacket seams as a guide to center the jacket.

The polyester jacket is incredibly durable and also quick-drying. At the bottom it has two rubber studs about two feet long that run parallel to each other and help with the kayaks tracking.

There are markers on both side chambers of the kayak that indicate how much air pressure is in each side tube, allowing you to easily control how much to inflate the kayak based on weather conditions and ensure both sides of the kayak are inflated evenly.

At the bow and stern there are plastic straps that make transportation easy and comfortable. At the bow of the kayak, the canvas outer skin also has bungee cords for easy storage of kayak accessories.

The Ranger also comes with two kayak seats, as this inflatable kayak is classified as a two-person boat. However, it is more suitable for an adult and a child.

The kayak seats also have their own canvas covers and are secured by straps with brass dog collar clips that attach to the four D-rings built into the polyester cover.

Kayak seats are extremely comfortable and can stay seated as long as you can paddle. Also, these kayak seats make great pillows if you camp overnight.

The ranger comes in two colors, dark green and dark blue, which look very stylish on the water. It measures approximately 325 cm x 80 cm and weighs 11.50 kg.

Like all inflatable kayaks, they will never match a rigid body in either speed or tracking, however the Ranger paddles and tracks reasonably well for a large, heavy inflatable.

Due to the large sides of this inflatable kayak, it is very stable in the water and virtually impossible to capsize unless really tilted.

Along with bungee cords at the bow, there is more room at the stern and inside for more kayak accessories.

Deflating and packing this inflatable kayak is also very quick and easy. Boston valves unscrew and let air out in seconds, and squeezing the valve on the floor section deflates the floor. Then it’s simply a matter of rolling it up the same way you would roll up a rug and place it in its bag which compacts down to the same size as a garbage bag.

For people looking for a good all-round inflatable kayak, the sevylor ranger is a great choice as it paddles well, stores in a closet, easily transports in the back of a car, can accommodate all of your kayak accessories and is virtually indestructible.
