Solutions to Outlook Express Errors

Microsoft Outlook Express errors are common problems faced by Microsoft Outlook Express users who use the application to fulfill their email sending and receiving needs. In fact, with the increasing use of email as a means of communication these days, solutions to Outlook Express errors have become more and more important and sought after. To avoid confusion, the Microsoft Outlook Express application is different from the Microsoft Outlook email client that is included with Microsoft Office. Rather, the former is included with Internet Explorer instead of the Microsoft Office suite. We list the following common problems faced by Microsoft Outlook Express users and offer the relevant solutions.

1. Outlook Express lazy loading

This problem occurs when Microsoft Outlook Express is running concurrently with Microsoft Windows Messenger. The solution here is to go to the Microsoft Outlook Express tools menu and in the options submenu, uncheck the option to automatically log in to Windows Messenger.

2. Inability to receive emails

When you can’t receive emails but can send them, your domain may be running out of space. This occurs when you have too many emails left in your Microsoft Outlook Express inbox or Sent Items folder. In such situation, it would be a good idea for you to delete some emails from your inbox, sent items, or any other folders you may have. Alternatively, you can increase the disk space of your email account to continue receiving emails again.

3. Outlook Express error 0x800420CB

This is a common problem faced by most of Microsoft Outlook Express users. This error causes you to be unable to open your email message. The most possible cause of this problem is in fact the corruption of your .dbx files. This file type is used by the Microsoft Outlook Express application. The solution to this problem involves a few simple steps. Select tools from the main menu. Then click on accounts and select the option from the mail tab. Click on the duplicate email account before selecting the delete option. Repeat these steps until all duplicate emails have been removed. In most cases, this step should solve the problem in question. Otherwise, rename the Outbox.dbx file. This can be easily found using the Windows search utility.

4. Unable to delete emails

If you can’t delete your old email messages, your “deleted items folder” may be corrupted. This occurs when a copy of the deleted email is sent to the “deleted email folder” each time an email is deleted. Transfer all messages in this folder to another folder. Later, close Microsoft Outlook Express and delete the file “Deleted Items.dbx”. You will need to modify your Windows settings to view hidden files in order to identify the location of your file.

The methods mentioned above are just some of the solutions to the many possible problems that can occur when using the Microsoft Outlook Express application. As with all computer application troubleshooting, identifying the problem is the key to finding the correct solution.
