Ways to keep track of your electronically filed tax return

To start this article, let’s talk about what to check before filing your taxes. The easiest thing for me would be to say EVERYTHING, but I want you to get some useful information out of this! Most of these are common sense, but some people may not be familiar with the new technologies that the Internal Revenue Service is taking advantage of to help people with their electronically filed taxes. Electronic filing is much easier to track now with the new way the IRS allows us to track our refunds!

More than 99,123 American taxpayers have filed their returns, but did not follow up when the refund did not arrive. I don’t know what kind of carefree life they have where they don’t need that money! If you are one of those people and want to enlighten me about your secret to financial freedom, of course I will also ignore my tax return! In case you were wondering, all those lost tax returns are worth over 153 MILLION dollars!

Now if there is no big conspiracy involving great wealth for rejecting other riches, and you are one of those unfortunate people who really wants your back, the money is there and you can visit the Internal Revenue Service online refund. Where is my refund tracker? This nifty tool will post the status of your refund and can sometimes give you the reason why the delivery failed.

Some less tech-savvy folks can still contact the IRS through their toll-free automatic refund tracking number (I bet you’re eager to hear the voice of the machine already telling you to press the buttons to the selections!) The number is (800) -829-1954.

For tech-savvy folks glued to their smartphones, the IRS has an app for just that! IRS2Go is the main application that allows you to check the status of your refund in real time!

As with any of these methods to recover your refund, you will need your social security number, filing status, and expected refund amount to use this application.

The app has several other features as well, like signing up for IRS tax updates and following the IRS on the popular Twitter social network. The last drop-down option on this Swiss Army Knife smartphone is the IRS2Go “contacts” sections, which have numbers and hours of operation for all IRS tax help lines.

The IRS2Go application is free and available on both the Apple App Store and the Android Market.
