Alex Jeffreys Coaching Program – Back to Basics

I was recently one of the lucky 500 people to become a member of the Alex Jeffreys training program. In fact, we call ourselves “The Lucky 500”. Alex Jeffreys is a protégé of Mike Filsaime and after starting an increasingly successful online business, he is now under the tutelage of business coach Rich Schefren. Alex made over $500,000 last year and is looking for a million in 2009.

I have no doubt in my mind that he will meet and probably exceed his goal. Although the coaching program is not in person, it is conducted in a webinar style and each coaching module ends in a marathon question and answer session. I don’t know where Alex gets all the energy out of him. We had a brainstorming session a couple of weeks ago that lasted 7 hours. His dedication to his students is only underscored by his obvious passion for internet marketing.

The first training module of Alex Jeffreys’ training program was called “Forward to Basics” instead of Back to Basics. Alex likes to turn everything into something positive. There should be no mention about going back, just moving forward. That is why he always talks about failing forward, which refers to the positive lesson that is learned every time you do not achieve your goal. He also specifically pointed out that we’re not talking about the basics of internet marketing, we’re talking about the basics of business. Marketing is simply a function of your business.

There were two main areas of discussion during “Forward to Basics.”

The first was about how you need to change your mindset from building an online business to providing value. Alex models his business around the saying “Don’t chase money…Let money chase me.” He talked a lot about positioning and adding value. He also gave us this little nugget of gold:

“The fastest way to get people to follow you, who are willing to pay you money, is to provide free content and then market that free content.”

Alex has built a business that generates over $20,000 a month using this strategy. He went on to talk about how you need to start small and work your way up, but the most important thing is to start, period. You will never achieve anything if you don’t take action and fail.

The second was about planning and goal setting. This part of the module had an immediate impact on my business and I understand why Alex included it in the first lesson. Organization and planning have easily doubled my productivity. Turning off distractions like cell phones, email, and chat programs will help you stay on track.

The first thing Alex told us to do was make a one year plan where we set goals. Not only business goals, but also personal ones. Then take your one year plan and break it down into a 90 day plan, then a monthly plan and finally a weekly plan. He made some daily schedules for us and then presented us with the “Daily Work Sheet”.

The daily task sheet should be used in conjunction with your to-do list. It tracks everything you do and then compares it at the end of the day to what you were supposed to do. This has been a great way for me to identify the things that are keeping me from being productive. By identifying them I can avoid them and so far it has worked great.

It has also been very helpful to have a plan. Alex gave us a link to choose a mind mapping software that we can use for free. Mind maps are a great tool that allow you to visualize your game plan and see all the steps required to achieve your goal.

It was a lot to take in during the 3 hours we were on the webinar, but Alex stayed another 3 hours answering questions and getting to know the students during the interactive sessions. I’m really looking forward to Alex Jeffreys’ next training session and in the meantime I’m going to implement everything he teaches me.
