Are German Shepherds aggressive?

What people don’t realize is that dogs are much more like people than they think. Just because they can’t talk doesn’t mean they can’t feel, and while most of us know on a very general level that dogs have feelings, it doesn’t really strike us. For example, most of us do not differentiate between the way a dog feels and the way a cow or chicken feels.

All animals have feelings, but some are closer to the way humans feel and one of those animals is the dog. No dog is aggressive by nature. Dogs are not crazy creatures that eat men. Especially the German shepherd because he has too much common sense to behave that way. They will respond aggressively if the situation demands it, but they will not be indiscriminate biters. If you really think about it a bit, even human beings are the same. Most of the time people are normal, but when they detect a threat they will respond aggressively. Some people, of course, will respond with flight, but let’s not listen to them.

The German Shepherd has a very trusting and aloof temperament with strangers. If you are used to a Labrador or a Beagle you will not understand that the German Shepherd does not intend to do you any harm. He just watches you as he watches everyone else, it’s as natural as breathing for the dog. Many people mistake this vigilance for aggression because they think the dog is waiting to attack them. It’s just a misconception.

The German Shepherd is a very friendly and affable dog that has a bad reputation because of bad owners. They have a very high protective instinct and one of the reasons people get the breed is because of this. Once they get it, it’s not possible to turn this instinct on and off every time they like a burglar alarm, so they tend to keep the dog locked indoors. This only makes the dog more irritable and aggressive. Imagine if you were kept locked inside a room and taken for a 15 minute walk every day with a leash around your neck and you’ll see why they feel this way.
