Avoid doing activities that are considered taboo during a game of poker

Like any table game in a casino, poker requires etiquette from the players in order for the game itself to be successful and provide both challenge and fun. This means that poker players should avoid doing certain things that will make poker a less fun game. These are some of the taboos that a casino player should never commit when playing poker.

· Cheating: A cheater is never welcome in any casino game or any serious game of poker. Cheating removes the challenge of winning the game. And if a poker player has decided to cheat, he will never reach that level of skill mastery that would drive him to win tournaments like the World Series of Poker.

· Use of mobile phones – Communication technology has reached a point where long distances no longer matter as much as half a century ago. One of the main reasons is the invention of mobile phones. But those impressive gadgets become distractions for a game of poker. This is the reason why the use of mobile phones has been considered a taboo in poker.

Placing Food and Drinks on the Poker Table – In online games, it wouldn’t matter if the casino player stuffed their mouths while moving their mouse. But in physical casinos, this practice is frowned upon. The poker table is intended for cards and chips only. Food and drinks, while most are free and provided by the casino as a freebie, should not be placed at the poker table.

Damaging cards – Aside from the fact that cards are not a player’s personal property, damaging cards is tantamount to cheating. This is because one of the cheating techniques of some poker players is to make scratches or marks on the edges of the cards. When a poker is found to damage the cards, the dealer may ban you from joining the poker table.

· Discussing one’s hand during play – Discussing one’s hand while the game is not over is simply a sign of arrogance. Some poker players may find a strategy to fool their opponents, but that is not an acceptable strategy. Poker is much more sophisticated than children’s games.

· Pouring chips into the pot: Carelessly splashing and spilling chips into the pot is a sign of rudeness. A person who does this act does not deserve to be called a poker player at all.

· Giving negative opinions or comments against opponents – Criticizing opponents is not a good way to distract them, especially if they are strangers. Often at a casino table, one will never know the background and motivations of the opponents. That is why no player has the right to give negative opinions against any of the other poker players.

A good poker player must not only master skills and strategies, but also good etiquette.
