Disadvantages of a guarantee

One of the first things you want to ask about something you want to buy is how long the warranty lasts and what exactly it covers. The first thing you’ll notice is that most manufacturers tend to have very similar warranty periods and terms. This should confirm to the doubt that most products are exactly the same in terms of quality. You should also tell him that because no manufacturer wants to lose money, they won’t give you a warranty that runs through the period that wear takes effect.

So one of the biggest downsides to warranties is that they won’t cover you when you need repair and maintenance the most. The cover only deals with the period when the item is still new and unlikely to break down. You are basically on your own when your appliance gets older and is much more likely to suddenly and unexpectedly leave you.

The other downside is that most warranties have exceptions. Quite often they won’t cover certain breakages, which means that no matter how new the item is, you’ll still have to dig into your pockets and pay to have it fixed.

So while it’s helpful to have a warranty just in case and mainly to cover manufacturing defects, they’re actually very limited. Especially for high priced items that will cost you a lot to repair or replace as well.

That’s why it’s worth taking a look at utility protection plans and appliance protection plans.
