Who wants to be Ted Turner’s neighbor?

One lucky bidder will have the opportunity to live among the stars, trees, wildlife, and one of the richest landowners in the United States.

On March 10, 700 acres of vacant land in pristine Jefferson County, Florida will be auctioned. The property of a former TV weatherman turned real estate contractor and licensee is up for grabs, but what makes this property truly unique are his neighbors. St. Joe to one side and on one corner, the famous Avalon Ranch, home to former media mogul and perhaps the largest private landowner in the country, Ted Turner.

The property’s current owner, Dave Roberts, says March 10 is going to be a tough day, but says, “I feel good that anyone who appreciates this property and its disposition enough will have the opportunity to purchase it and enjoy it as I do.” .

The suggested minimum bid price is $1,200 per acre on an estimated 698.7 acres. Chip Haywood, broker and auctioneer for Haywood Realty Auction almost tried to talk Roberts out of selling it after seeing it for the first time. Says Haywood, “Here’s this beautiful piece of property that seems to have more wildlife per square mile than the bankers have on Wall Street, and I couldn’t see why he would want to sell it. He would rather we became good friends and he would let me hunt him whenever I wanted, but I wouldn’t be fooled by that.”

Says Roberts, “It’s incompatible with my lifestyle right now. I’m working on half a dozen small development projects for the next two years that will take me all over Florida and I only have the opportunity to stop by and visit. The property needs more than that and I hope that the person who wins it at auction, invests in it, develops it properly and really maximizes and enjoys its beauty.”

The property is 700 acres of vacant land, with woods and wetlands, fronting Interstate 10 for approximately 2 miles on the east side of Turkey Scratch Road and approximately 1 mile deep. Says Roberts, “I come up that paved overpass on I-10, like it’s my own private road, I come onto the property and I exhale the whole time.”

The property is located in Jefferson County, Florida near the city of Monticello. Jefferson County is pushing a population of 15,000, but it is just east of Tallahassee, which is showing steady suburban growth in this direction.

The auction will be held on Saturday, March 10 at noon at the property’s entrance on Turkey Scratch Road off I-10. For more information or to register as a broker, visit [http://www.700acreauction.com]
