Why handrail brackets are essential

When using railings of various types, from banisters, to foot and stairs, brackets are a must. These supports work as a support for the pipe so that it does not fall and can serve its purpose well.

The handrails can be used in different places, such as stairs, bathrooms, especially in the bathtub area, and at home, as well as commercial bars. These accessories are intended to provide comfort and support for individuals who may need something to hold onto for balance while standing up, going up, or down a ladder.

To keep it sturdy, this wall fixture uses screws. This is to allow them to handle the weight of people while holding onto them for support. It won’t serve its purpose unless it’s attached to the wall via wall studs, if possible.

Ideally, a handrail should be strong enough to support 250 pounds of weight. Did you know that each year, approximately one in three older adults falls mostly at home? For the elderly, a fall can have an adverse effect on their mobility or, even worse, it can cause their death.

It used to be that handrail brackets were just the regular kind. Today, however, in addition to the traditional types, there is a wide range of decorative ones to choose from to suit every personal style. Materials have also advanced and now, in addition to wood, stainless steel, aluminum, wrought iron and brass are available on the market. And in addition to the materials and styles, they also come in different textures and finishes, such as polished brass and chrome, satin, satin nickel, satin chrome, antique nickel, and oil-rubbed bronze.

Brackets usually come with screws and when used on handrails they are installed differently. For example, the decorative types with animal heads designed with a ring can be installed on the wall by securing the screws located in the head part, while the pipe can be inserted into the ring part.

The plain and simple type, on the other hand, uses at least three screws. All three are secured to the wall while the other two are secured to the tube to hold it in place.

Experts recommend using round tubes for handrails. Compared to other designs, a round type with the proper diameter is more comfortable to hold and fits better in anyone’s hand.

When it comes to height, handrails must be installed at least 34 inches from the floor. This is the ideal height for adults, but a lower height is necessary for children.

Keep in mind that when installing handrails, especially on stairs, you must follow the specific building codes for your area. There are rules to follow regarding height for children and adults, the distance from the wall, the number of supports to use, and the distance of each support.

If you are looking to use decorative brackets, make sure they match your pipe material. Installing them can be a DIY project or you can get the help of a professional carpenter if you want.
