4 Tips for Packing Fragile Items for Your Big Move

Moving is such a tedious task considering how many things you have to pack. While some are easy to pack and box like clothes and other non-delicates, some of your essentials will need special consideration, like your fragile possessions. To help you with this endeavor, here are some quick tips you might want to follow.

Use protective covers. Fragile items tend to break easily, especially if they are moved inside the containers you plan to put out during the move. Fortunately, there are several wraps you can use to add an extra layer of protection to things you don’t want to get damaged. You can wrap them with old newspapers and other old paper materials at home. Bubble wraps are also great to use. Cottons, rugs, and old clothes can all make box padding to ensure fragile items don’t shift, but you should still secure your items with tape as some materials tend to slip. Use as much tape as you need. Regardless, you are doing it to make sure the items don’t get broken, bent, or damaged.

Always prepare packing materials in advance. If time is your enemy during the move, you don’t want to be caught in a packing dilemma where some of your materials are missing just like when you’re packing those things. It is always advisable to prepare in advance. Make sure you have with you the wrappers, scissors, quality boxes, packing tapes and other extras that you think will be useful for your packing tasks. Rest assured, it will save a lot of your time!

Label boxes containing fragile items. More than just wrapping and packing, you also need to remember which boxes actually contain the fragile items. With the help of your felt marker, write strongly, clearly and in a legible size the word “Fragile”. It will be a great reminder!

Remember your movers. While felt markers can actually do the talking for fragile items by telling people “Hey, I’m the box with the fragile items!”, you still need to tell movers which of the boxes contain sensitive items and easy to break. Letting them know about the content can also help them be more careful about what they carry.

Whether the fragile items are expensive or just those things with sentimental value, we hope the tips above will help you pack them carefully.
