I know, I know, sounds like a lot of supplies, right? Well, it is if you’re not in the tile business, but many homeowners will already have enough of this stuff lying around the house or garage somewhere.

Now that we have our supplies, we are ready to begin the 5-step retreading process. Wait…recheck your list, because once you start, it’s hard to put things on hold while you search for the right supplies to finish the project.

OKAY … Step one, removing old grout, caulking or silicone. Using a razor blade, scrape all the old grout out of the corners, around the tub, toilet, and anything else in the area you will be re-grouting. Using your grout removal tool, remove the old grout from the grout joints with a pulling motion.

On Second step of the retreading process which will be the mold/bacteria treatment. Spray mold/bacterial treatment over entire area to be re-grouted. Let sit for about 15-20 minutes before moving on to the next step.

Step three part of the grouting process is washing the tile. Spray the cleaner on the tile, then let it sit for another 15 to 20 minutes. Scrub the entire area with a scrub brush and warm water to rinse off the cleaner.

During Step four After the grouting process we will apply the new grout. Mix the grout with “warm” water and your grout enhancer additive. Once your grout is consistent, start applying the grout using your grout float in a diagonal direction across the tile. Once you have finished grouting the area, wash the grout joints with a sponge and cold water.

Now you are ready for the Fifth step to complete the 5-step retreading process. Seal all areas where you re-grouted. Using your sponge, apply the sealer to all the areas you re-grouted. Let the sealer dry for approximately 2-4 hours before buffing the tile with a dry towel.
