Elliptical Trainer – Advantages and Disadvantages

The elliptical trainer (also known as a cross-trainer) is a gym machine that can be used for training that simulates running or walking. You can train on this machine at almost any local gym. Here is a list of advantages and disadvantages of the training machine:

1. Joint pressure and risk of injury

One of the biggest advantages of workouts on an elliptical is that it doesn’t put undue stress on your joints. In addition, it decreases the risk of impact injuries. That is why many people prefer to train on it and ignore jogging in the park.

2. Work more muscles at the same time

Other great advantages of the trainer is that when you train on it, you work both: the muscles of the upper and lower body. It will help you burn more calories in less time.

3. Training programs

Most trainers are equipped with programs that could mimic interval training through alternating resistance or even climbing a hill. This could make your training more effective.

4. Get used to exercise

The biggest downside to the elliptical is that many people find the exercise unnatural and most prefer to train on a treadmill which better mimics jogging or walking movements.

5. Prices

You can buy a middle class trainer for anywhere from $500 to $600, some people find this price expensive.

6. Train in the same place

It doesn’t matter if you train on an elliptical at home or at the local gym, in both cases you will train in the same place every workout, which can cause you a motivation problem.
