How to sharpen dog grooming thinning shears

The term ‘thinning’ in the world of hair styling and maintenance is to thin the appearance of the hair without altering the initial hairstyle. This term is also applied to dogs, as some tend to have thick or bushy hair that can thin out. To do this, you’ll need to use a pair of dog grooming scissors, one that looks like a pair of scissors with blades that look like metal combs. However, it would require frequent sharpening to keep it sharp.

What you will need to sharpen your thinning shears is a sharpening device, wand sharpener, sharpening oil, and a rag.

To sharpen, you will need to place the flat scissor blade in the scissor slot and adjust the slot to hold it securely to the blade. Next, turn on the grinding wheel and set it to the sharpening and deburring setting. Allow the device to work and then turn it off when complete. After that, you’ll need to sharpen each blade of the dog grooming shears’ comb with a wand sharpener, which looks like a long, narrow stick that would fit between each tooth. Using the wand sharpener, slide it between each tooth by sliding it in and out of the slots. This should be done four to six times so that each blade can remove all the burrs and sharpen it well.

Consecutively rinse the scissors with cold water. Make sure it is completely dry before applying a thin layer of polishing oil to the blades. Then, use a rag to clean up any debris that may have resulted from the sharpening process. Last but not least, keep your scissors well-lubricated, especially after each use. Pay attention not only to the blades, but also to the center screw so that you don’t have too much difficulty separating the blades.
