The importance of reading books for the development of children’s personality

When I go to your house, the first thing I look for is your bookshelf. Yes, because she talks a lot about you.

People who accumulate books have more favorable human relationships than those who don’t. Yes, because books teach us many things.

Get a storybook and see how the people in the story behave. Your goal to reach the highest rung of the ladder, let’s say career, business, etc. they could be in constant battle with their inner demons. Yes, be it pride, envy, jealousy, or so one might be a bitter truth about themselves. Learning how they face and overcome these is something that can also be done when we feel the same job. We need to be good, kind, fair, and fair to be called well-adjusted people. Because, living with other people around us, we have to be easy going, know our limits, and be willing to learn a thing or two about how to relate. And, reading books is a sure way to gain the necessary skills to deal with different people around us. Vicarious learning is key. When you read a character in a book who is the butt of jokes, or maligned, or whatever, you tend to empathize. You know that it is not good to do such a thing or receive such treatment. Thank you, to the books I have read!

When I conducted a survey with my students, only some of them have reading materials at home. They do not have any books other than the textbooks that the school gives them to read during the school year. This is so alarming, considering the importance of reading books to a child to build their comprehension, fluency and vocabulary skills, but even more so in their appreciation of the human dynamic where people have different personalities, beliefs and all, therefore having different actions-reactions to a given topic, etc.

Young minds must become whole people later. They must have absorbed the wisdom of great literature and become more understanding and empathetic to everyone, especially those beyond their close contact. Challenges with prejudice, hatred towards some people, irrational though and all, still persist due to lack of habit of reading books and learning the dynamics of positive social interactions.

Those who are wide and wild readers, if they realize they are quiet and easier to be with, they could get the uniqueness of one without bias or bias and all. That is the essence of reading books in which we become more understanding, supportive and everything in between with the people around us.

However, there are always exceptions to the rule: some of us have this tenacity to be boldly judgmental of a person. Even the so-called educated. Yes, true education is seen in how you treat people beyond your close contact, how you treat them is your own brand of social fit – treat people well to show your learned behavior gained from varied reading, experiences and other things like that.

So next time I visit, serve me coffee or tea…and a book you’ve read countless times! He could gain some wisdom from that and be a better person than he used to be. It’s a joke!
