Walking around Paltinis

We must start this article by saying that Paltinis is the first city on the slope of the Carpathian mountain, inaugurated in 1894, but also the highest located in the highlands: 1442 m high. Impressive, right?

It is also interesting to know that the architecture of the first cabins built in this area was inspired by that of the alpine cabins in Tyrol, Austria. It is incredible to see how a place so beautiful due to its nature, can annually attract thousands of foreign tourists, delighted with the possibility of hiking in Paltinis.

No matter the season, Paltinis is always showing mountain lovers a great time through many different activities. Only 32 km from Sibiu, the cultural capital of Romania, Paltinis is hidden in the heart of the mountains. Cindrel is surrounded by cool bushland, spectacular ridges and wide fields.

Paltinis is the ideal destination for trekking lovers, as it offers countless routes and activities. You can take a walk to the Batrana peak, through which you will be enchanted and captivated by the beautiful view that unfolds in front of your eyes.

This way you will also recharge your batteries with some fresh and cold air. A little tip: Don’t miss the nearby fold because it can give you the most rustic and authentic experience!

The hike can continue to Cindrel Peak, where many tasty berries, flowery meadows and glacial lakes can be found. The adventure is complex, since you have the opportunity to visit the Museum of Glass Images and cross the village of Fantanele where you can discover the ruins of Fantanele’s famine cabin.

You can take a well-deserved rest in the sheepfold of shepherd Lica where you can taste a delicious telemea cheese, prepared with love and excellence with fresh sheep’s milk.

The enormous Cindrel hides wonders that can only be seen by getting closer. From a distance, you couldn’t have seen the tiny craft shop of traditional costumes that locals still wear at big events.

There you can buy some authentic gifts for the loved ones waiting for you at home. Also, you wouldn’t get the chance to taste the delicious cheese cocolos baked in amber by the shepherd Nea Gheorghe, who spends all his days in Valare.

Only by staying in the mountains of the Cindrel massifs can you take a break at Lake Iezeru Mare, a lake that has arisen, as legend has it, from the tears of a very beautiful shepherd’s daughter.

A special route for lovers can be the path to Magura Cisnadiei, a place with a beautiful view over the Sibiu flow. On the hill of Sf. Mihail is the Cisnadioara neighborhood, which is several centuries old and is known for being a meeting place for lovers who confessed within its walls.

At the end of the day, you can have dinner with your friends and family at one of the accommodation centers in Paltinis. A campfire, hot tea or cold beer – the perfect ingredients for an enchanting holiday!

Call your fellow hikers or buddy, pack your backpack, do some quick research by typing the words “Paltinis accommodation” and hit start for a heavenly vacation.
