The online store was first introduced in 1997 and has quickly become one of the largest online retailers along with Amazon and eBay. If you’re looking for an Apple device or accessory, the Apple online store is the place to go.

Products sold in the Apple Store include:

• iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, MacBook, iMac, Apple TV, and other Apple hardware
• Apple software such as Mac OS X, iLife, iWork, and Final Cut Pro
• Third-party software that is designed to work on Apple products
• Apple accessories for your tablet, smartphone, laptop and iPod

While the vast majority of products in Apple’s online store are brand new, the manufacturer does carry a small selection of refurbished hardware. However, it does not include refurbished iPhones. If you’re looking to buy used, not new, eBay is probably the best source for finding used iPhones and iPad tablets.

In addition to Apple products like iPhones and iPod players, shoppers can purchase Apple Instant Loans and gift certificates for others. iTunes gift certificates seem to be especially popular for birthday and Christmas gifts, as the card allows the gift recipient to choose the music they’d like and not the person buying the gift.

Apple has received some criticism in the past for being significantly more expensive than other technology manufacturers such as IBM and Dell. Sure, one look at the price tag of Apple’s iPad and one look at the Amazon Kindle Fire HD and there are certainly huge discrepancies between Apple products and non-Apple products. Apple’s online store, however, offers discounts to “educational” students, which include teachers and students at institutions of higher learning. US government employees, international companies, and K-12 school faculty are also eligible for the discounts, though sadly not for K-12 students.

In 2010, Apple released an Apple Store app for iOS that allows users to shop for products, find physical stores, and schedule appointments right on their Apple device. If you don’t have the app, Apple’s online store can be accessed by users from any computer with an Internet connection and can be viewed with all major browsers, including Internet Explorer and Safari.

One last note before concluding this brief review. We all know that Apple has tons of products that are sold on Apple online stores and though many times, people tend to buy their Apple products from different online stores. It does not mean that Apple stores are not competitive or do not meet standards. It just shows that, on many occasions, people prefer to see different options.
