Famous places in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico has several milestones that have great significance in the history of this place. Various monuments and memorials can be found throughout Puerto Rico that made this land an interesting place to visit. If you’re thinking of going to Puerto Rico, be sure to visit these historic places to make the most of your vacation.

One of the things you must do in Puerto Rico is to visit its forts. The forts located in El Morro and Vieques are must-see places. At El Morro, you will see the remains of the Spanish fortress that were built during the 16th century. This fortress was built to safeguard the Old San Juan region from enemy attacks from the sea. Also, El Fortin Conde de Mirasol or Fuerte de Vieques is a fort located on Vieques that was built in 1816. This fortress is home to the Vieques Museum of Art and History.

Furthermore, a visit to the cathedral is also an interesting activity in Puerto Rico. This land has the Cathedral of San Juan which is the second oldest cathedral located in the western hemisphere. Built in 1521, the remains of Juan Ponce de León, the founder of the settlement, were buried in this Cathedral. There is also the Iglesia Iglesia San Miguel Arcángel located in Cabo Rojo. This church was built in 1783 and is considered as a historical landmark by the government.

Other interesting places to visit are Ballaha Barracks, a museum featuring highlights of America; La Casa del Libro, a museum of art and history books; Institute of Puerto Rican Culture La Fortaleza, the Governor’s oldest mansion; and the Arecibo Observatory, the world’s largest single-aperture telescope.
