Golf Swing Tips: Single Plane Swing Basics

The single plane swing is an easy way to hit a ball towards your target and increase your enjoyment while playing golf. Years of teaching experience have shown me easier ways to communicate this simple swing method, a swing method brilliantly proven by Canadian Golf Hall of Fame member Moe Norman, regularly called the World’s Best Ball Striker ( by Tiger Woods, Lee Trevino and other greats of the game).

To hit the ball consistently, you need to control three things:

    1. Clubface target on impact 2. Clubhead trajectory through impact 3. Energy production without disturbing numbers 1 or 2

Natural Golf offers you an easy way to control all three.

Fundamental # 1 – The natural hold

To control where the clubface is pointing at impact, we hold the club in a way that aligns the forearms with the axis of the club.

This alignment emulates dynamic alignment during impact, which means that the clubface will square more consistently with the direction in which it swings. This way you only have one thing to focus your attention on when playing golf and that is the trajectory of the clubhead through impact.

Fundamental # 2 – The Single Plane Configuration

To control the direction in which the clubhead swings (trajectory), we place the ball with the forearms aligned in plane with the axis of the club and the upper arms above (at the top) of the chest. In this way, your arms can control the direction of the clubhead and torso rotation is minimized, allowing you to swing back and forth in virtually the same path or in a single plane.

From here, just aim and drive the ball towards your goal!

Fundamental # 3 – Drive the ball towards your goal

We drive the ball with a stick in the same way that we drive a nail with a hammer, using leverage as a source of energy. Leverage is obtained by allowing the wrists to function as a hinge so that we can release the weight of the clubhead in the direction we want to propel the ball, mainly driven by a simple independent action of the arm.

The advantage of the natural golf single plane swing is that you can fully unleash the force of the clubhead beyond your body (as seen in these images by Moe Norman) without the need to twist or twist. This is because our setup positions you in the direction where you will return most naturally during swing impact, with your arms aligned in plane with the axis of the club. Your body stabilizes as you unleash leverage at the clubhead through impact. Then simply follow the momentum of the clubhead, making for a balanced, stress-free finish.

So there you have it – With Natural Golf you can …

o Control where the clubhead points to impact using Natural Hold o Control the trajectory of the clubhead using the Single Plane Setup o Control the speed of the clubhead using the stress-free power source to propel the ball towards your goal!

If you haven’t already, give it a try!
